Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - My Thoughts and My Art

First off - Happy New Years Everyone!

Secondly, I thought I'd share some insights and opinions on my new toy from Christmas (Thanksgiving break really) - Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

One of the first tablets truly made for artists (if you say Apple, I swear to god I will murder you). It has built in wacom technology for touch sensitive drawing with a stylus. Galaxy has a phone version I believe and two tablet versions. One is the 8 (8-inch screen) and the 10 (10 inch screen). I have actually owned both.

I temporarily bought the Note 10 during CTN to demo my art work and then returned the pricey pricey toy. While I quickly fell in LOVE with the tablet, I could not justify spending ALMOST 600 bucks for the thing. Sorry it does not do THAT many things. It's the price of a laptop which is much more useful. But I still wanted something on the fly, thats small, compact, can making digital art fun without all the baggage- and by that I mean laptop, bamboo tablet, power cords and a backpack to carry it all in.

Well come Thanksgiving my grandmother bought me a tablet but not knowing the difference in all of them she just picked one and bought it, but gave me the receipt in case it wasn't the right one. So I went back to the store and swapped it out and paid the difference for the Note 8. So it is still technically a gift from her to me, I don't care what you say.  : D

The Galaxy Note 8 is an excellent gift for any artist. Like the 10, I fell in love quickly. It is almost half the price of the 10, still just as useful and compact. It is a good size because I can hold it with one hand if I ever needed to while using it, or when I want to - I can turn it sideways and hold with both hands. This you definitely cannot do with the Galaxy 10, which is why I highly recommend if your caught between choosing just pick the 8. Along with the tablet I had bought Autodesk Sketchbook Pro from the Play Store which was only $5 bucks. FIVE BUCKS - you cannot go wrong with that!!

Well you can see below some quick sketches I did with the tablet. The software is really useful and I'm still finding new tools to use in it, but in essence it provides what every artist needs - a (digital) paper and pencil. You can draw int he dark, on a train, on a plane, in a box, with a fox. Do whatever you want because this is one piece of your arsenal you can adapt and customize to YOUR liking.

Anywho... I will leave you with this Andy Warhol quote and my sketches.

Remember Just Keep Going Forward!

“Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” - Andy W.
